The International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) is a transferable document representing the characteristics of renewable energy generation. Its purpose is to improve transparency and accountability in the renewable energy market by separating the renewable attributes from the physical electricity. When a renewable energy facility produces electricity, corresponding I-RECs are generated.

The I-REC Standard is globalled acknowledged for tracking and validating claims related to renewable energy, enabling organizations (especially those who are part of the RE100) to showcase their dedication to supporting renewable energy and minimizing their carbon footprint. RE100 is a global initiative led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project). Companies joining the RE100 initiative pledge to source 100% of their electricity consumption from renewable energy sources by a specified target year.
